A fundraiser launched to help support a nine-year-old girl from Co Kildare who has been diagnosed with a brain tumour has raised over €22,000.

Earlier this month, parents Ciera and Neil Howe received the devastating news that their nine-month-old baby Erin has been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Doctors originally thought the tumour was benign, but further tests found that Erin was suffering from an "aggressive cancer", according to Ciera's brother Ronan.

Just days after receiving the shocking diagnoses, Erin underwent her first surgery in the hopes of removing the tumour.

Unfortunately, the surgery wasn't successful and Erin had to undergo a second surgery on Friday, October 11 at Temple Street.

The brave infant "is doing just amazing and breathing all by herself already" following the operation, and Ciera's close friends Sarah and Karen have now set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to raise money for the couple as they take time off work to care for Erin during her cancer battle.

"The purpose of this page is to help Ciera and Neil navigate the next few months and relieve them of some financial pressures," they wrote in a post shared on the fundraising page.

"We appreciate any help at all you can provide for them and we will keep you updated on Erin’s progress. Thank you for your support and please keep Erin in your thoughts on her recovery."

So far the GoFundMe page has raised €22,160, surpassing its €10,000 target in just a few days. To donate to the fundraiser, head here.
