The Wolfe Tones star Brian Warfield makes honest admission about the band after final gig

Singer Brian Warfield has admitted he is “ready for a break” as The Wolfe Tones pack up after 60 years performing together.
The folk music legends played their final ever concert at Dublin’s 3Arena on Sunday night in front of a sell-out crowd. The band, who have been playing together for six decades, also performed at the venue on Friday and Saturday night.
Brian told the Irish Mirror: “I feel very tired after the first two. I’m ready for a break because we had a very busy year as you know with all the gigs all over the place.”

But the 78-year-old Dubliner said he isn’t putting his banjo away just yet. In January, he will launch his first musical, Celtic Exodus, which hopes to be in theatres across the country next year.
He said: “But I still have an exciting project coming up so I’m really looking forward to that – its my musical play coming up. We’re launching it in January in The Complex in Dublin so that is exciting.
“I’m always going to be involved in music somehow or another. I’m not hanging up my banjo altogether, I’ll still be involved. But I’m looking forward to a break.”
Speaking about performing in front of hundreds of thousands of die-hard fans across three sold-out concerts at the weekend, Brian said: “It was absolutely amazing. The crowd were so enthusiastic. It was unbelievable. We couldn’t have asked for a better send off.
“There was a huge crowd. Everybody was enthusiastic about it. Everybody was singing along with the songs. It was amazing.”
Brian and the band celebrated their mammoth career with a few drinks after Sunday night's gig and Brian revealed he will go to Spain on holidays for two weeks to rest.
“We’ll have a hangover in the morning,” he said, laughing. “Then we’re going away for two weeks to Spain,” he added.
