A Gofundme page to support the family of a Donegal man, who tragically died in a work accident last week, has been inundated with donations.

Sympathisers have rallied around to support the family of former Kilcar underage player Barry Breslin, who passed away, aged 35.

Mr Breslin, a father-of-one, had been living in Australia for 13 years and was resident in Perth.

The Gofundme page, which has in the region of 2400 donations, has raised over €400,000, with a target of €155,000 having long since been surpassed.

“It is with great sadness that we are setting up this Gofundme to support the family of Barry Breslin - known to everyone as Duke - to relieve the financial burden on his family,” read the Gofundme post.

“Barry was tragically killed in an accident at his workplace on Thursday October 3, leaving his fiancée Melissa, beautiful son Tommy, parents Mary and Seamus, brothers Owen and Shane, along with many extended family and close friends both in Ireland and Australia utterly devastated.

“Duke was born and raised in the parish of Kilcar in County Donegal. He moved to Perth, Western Australia in 2011 and over the years he has touched the hearts of many.

“He was always up for a laugh whether it be greasing the door handles of a digger, giving yoghurt as sunscreen, or being there to celebrate with his family and friends.

“Duke was one in a million. He was a family man at heart and a loyal friend to many around him. He will be sadly missed but not forgotten.

“Thank you all for taking the time to read this and for any donation little or big to help this family out. If you could also share this with as many friends and family members as possible it would be greatly appreciated.

“Thanks from Melissa, Tommy and the Breslin Family.”

Kilcar GAA also paid tribute to Barry Breslin: “CLG Chill Chartha would like to express our sincerest condolences to Barry’s fiancée Melissa, his son Tommy, his parents Seamus and Mary, to his brothers Owen and Shane and to all his family and his many, many friends.

“It was a great shock to us all when the news reached us of the untimely passing of Barry in Australia.

"Barry played underage for the club for many years and is fondly remembered by the players and all who were involved at the time.

“And to his mother Mary, a tireless volunteer and supporter of our club over the years, our hearts go out to you and your family and we pass on our prayers to you all at this sad time.”
