A fundraiser set up for a Donegal man who tragically lost his life in a workplace accident in Australia has raised hundreds of thousands of euros for the Irishman’s family.

Barry 'Duke' Breslin sadly died in an accident at his workplace on Thursday, October 3. Born and raised in the Donegal parish of Kilcar, Duke will leave behind his loving fiancée Melissa, and beautiful son Tommy, as well as his parents, siblings and many friends in both Ireland and Australia.

Barry had moved to Australia in 2011 and was described as having touched the hearts of many” and was “always up for a laugh” as well as being there to “celebrate with his family and friends”.

A fundraiser launched to help the family of Barry in a difficult time has raised well over €300,000.

A Post on the GoFundMe page read: “It is with great sadness that we are setting up this GoFundMe to support the family of Barry Breslin known to everyone as Duke, to relieve the financial burden on his family.”

They added: “Duke was one in a million. He was a family man at heart and a loyal friend to many around him, he will be sadly missed but not forgotten.

“Thank you all for taking the time to read this and for any donation little or big to help this family out.

“If you could also share this with as many friends and family members as possible it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks from Melissa, Tommy and the Breslin Family”.

So far the GoFundMe has raised $529,868 AUD (€328,147), far surpassing the initial $250,000 AUD (€154,826) goal. To donate to the fundraiser, head here.
