Tributes pour in for Fair City

Tributes have been paid to Fair City writer Ken Harmon after his sudden death.

Several actors from the popular soap offered their condolences to his former wife and fellow cast member Sorcha Furlong.

Deirdre Donnelly, who plays Jacinta Boyle in the soap said: "My deepest condolences to Ken’s family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

Ruth Hegarty, who plays Nora Keogh, added: "So sorry to hear this sad news."

Ken was an award-winning screenwriter, playwright, producer and actor.

He created and wrote drama series Legend for RTE, which was nominated for several Irish Film and TV Awards.

In recent years he had been one of Fair City’s chief storyline writers.

Ken, who was from Oranmore, Co Galway, began dating actress Sorcha, 47, around 2015 after they met through work.

They married in 2019 but the couple split during lockdown. Sorcha, who has a grown-up daughter from a previous relationship, confirmed last year they had tried to make things work, and remained professional on set with each other.

A notice on RIP.ie reads: "Ken Harmon, passed away on September 30 suddenly and unexpectedly.

"Cremation service will take place tomorrow at 2pm, in Shannon Crematorium, Co Clare."

A spokesperson from Fair City said yesterday: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague Ken Harmon.

"Our thoughts are with all those who loved him during this difficult time."
