Jadon Sancho given fresh hope of England call-up as Lee Carsley takes aim at Man Utd

Lee Carsley has thrown down the gauntlet to England’s big names after insisting no-one can take their place for granted.
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and Crystal Palace ’s Eberechi Eze have both been cut from England’s 25 man squad to face Greece and Finland in the Nations League.
Carsley insisted Maguire still has a “big part to play” but he also warned that he wants to move away from making every squad a “copy and paste” to ensure everyone is on their toes.
England interim boss Carsley said: “There’s definitely a balance with that because you need to create a team spirit, a unity within the squad and if every time a window comes along and you have the feeling: 'Will I won’t I?'
“But the reality is you want a player to be coming in top form and fighting for a position in the team. I don’t think anyone turns up, especially with England, expecting to play. Getting out of this Nations League is important for us in terms of setting up the World Cup qualification.
“The players that have been left out have all got a case to be in the squad but I thought it was important, we saw the benefit in the last squad, of being fresh and feeling fresh, a lot of energy.
“I thought it was important that it is not just a copy and a paste, I want them to feel like they have earned their place in the squad. I have spoken to all of the players who aren't involved and I've had good conversations with them.”
Carsley’s only fresh call-up is Tottenham ’s in-form Dominic Solanke - who only has one senior cap to his name - while he also left the door open to a return for Jadon Sancho after a three-year international absence.
Carsley added: “Jadon is a player that I really like. He is a player that has huge potential who has hopefully found a home where he feels rated, he feels loved. He put in a really good performance the other day and I think he just needs time now to play.
“Dom has his call-up and earned the right to be called up for England with what he’s done this season and the body of work behind. When he’s got that call I think he’s thinking he probably deserves this.”
