There is a time for accuracy and patience and there is a time for thunderous power. Quite often, Damien Comer opts for the latter.

The Galway attacker is one of the most feared GAA players in the country, such is his strength and direct approach. While this year ended in a painful All-Ireland defeat to Armagh for Comer and the Galway footballers, he showed glimpses of his undoubted quality when injury-free earlier this year.

He has been focused on club action since and scored another barnstorming goal for Annaghdown on Sunday in the Galway senior football Championship quarter-finals.

Comer's club were trailing by six, 1-10 to 0-7, deep in injury time against Tuam Stars and won a late free 20 yards out. Comer opted for power and, with precision added, rifled the ball into the top corner despite the fact Tuam had nine players stationed around the goal line.

Neither the goalkeeper or his eight outfield teammates could get near the ball as it almost took the net off the goals but it was all in vain in the end as Tuam progressed to the county semi-finals.

They now go on to a SFC semi-final clash with Maigh Cuilinn while defending champions Corofin, bidding for their 20th crown in the past 34 years, will take on Salthill/Knocknacarra in the other last four tie.

Comer can now put his feet up for the winter and look to hit the ground running, hopefully injury-free, in early 2025 for Padraic Joyce and his Tribesmen as they look to hit back from a painful All-Ireland final defeat.
