TV presenter Vanessa Feltz has opened up about her recent hospitalisation, sharing an update after having emergency surgery for an agonising kidney stone.

She underwent the procedure two weeks ago after being "doubled over in agony" over the health issue. Vanessa returned to work just days later, saying that's "what freelancers do," and doesn't appear to have slowed down.

Sharing an update during a candid conversation with Heart Bingo, when quizzed on how she's doing now, as reported by the Express, Vanessa revealed: "Oh my god it was horrific! I'm absolutely fine now, but everything they say about kidney stones is true!" She added: "I'm happy it's over and feeling as fresh as ever now – it'll take more than that to keep me down!"

The broadcaster had previously confessed that she had been "praying" for doctors to operate as she couldn't stand the pain. Vanessa, recounting her ordeal on Channel 5 's The Jeremy Vine Show, explained that it all seemed sudden: "I was felled by a kidney stone. Who knew? One [minute], I was absolutely fine making lunch for the grandbabies, having a laugh, hungry, normal, everything."

She continued: "And the next minute, the pain was absolutely extraordinary. I've had natural childbirth twice, I've got some idea of pain, but this was remarkable." Suggesting she had been desperate for relief, she teased: "Actually remarkable. Anyway, in the end I had to be nuked with a laser."

She went on to share her inner plea at the time, saying: "When they said 'if it's over five millimetres, we'll have to operate,' I was praying, 'please let it be over five millimetres'. Please let them operate because I couldn't bear the thought of suffering through it any longer. I'm delighted to be here, I can't tell you."

The columnist has said she was enjoying a Sunday lunch with her two grandchildren when she was suddenly hit by excruciating stomach pain. Speaking from her hospital bed earlier this month, she told the Express : "I was having a normal Sunday lunch, with my beloved grandchildren AJ, five, and Cecily, two… then felt the most dreadful pain. I've given birth to two children naturally and have never felt anything like it. I was doubled over in agony."

Her daughters, Allegra and Saskia, swiftly dialled 999 and the 62-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance from her home in London where a scan revealed the kidney stone. She was then operated on overnight.

"It's been fixed now, and I'm extremely grateful to all my first responders – from my daughters to all the nurses and porters, plus the much-needed anaesthetist and a wonderful surgeon,” Vanessa expressed at the time. "Take it from me – an unwarranted hospital visit is no fun."
