Martin has shared details of one of the toughest days in his life as he had to continue working, despite receiving horrific news
Virgin Media star Martin King has revealed his “toughest day” in his career.
The Weekend AM host was left devastated after he was told the news his wife and celebrity photographer Jenny McCarthy was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010. She had surgery in 2011. But in 2022, she was dealt with another devastating blow when doctors told her they needed to remove a second brain tumour.
Martin said it was the toughest day in his life as he had to continue working, despite the horrific news.

He said: “At that time I was presenting the morning show with Sybil (Mulcahy). I remember getting the news back in 2010 that there was something in Jenny's head that shouldn't be there and yeah, I had to pull myself together and go in and present the show. That was probably one of my toughest days on TV or radio. That was pretty tough.
"And then when the thing came back, I was on the Six O’Clock show and I used that to see me through because I couldn't' go into the hospital. We were coming out of Covid, but you still weren't allowed in so the day of the surgery I had to take that day off.”
But he admitted his work did help him momentarily escape his troubles. "It was both an escape and there were days when it was tough.”
The popular Dubliner praised the station and his work colleagues for their “amazing support” at the time. "Massive. They were just incredible at the time. As was the station. They just said, 'take as much time as you need'. It was amazing. I was called up by the then CEO David McRedmond and he just said, 'take whatever time you need, don't worry about money'.”
He said Jenny has been “great” and doctors told her at her last scan that they are happy to only see her once a year, rather than every three months.
"Jenny is great. She had a scan a couple of months ago and she was told what we wanted to hear, which was we will see you in 12 months and that is what we got. You can't live like that, you can't live from scan to scan. We had a great holiday in Orlando. We're going to skip off to Tenerife,” he added.
