NFL icon Tom Brady couldn't hide his surprise when Rob McElhenney brought New York Giants legend Eli Manning into the mix at Wrexham.

The League One leaders, co-owned by Hollywood's Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney, are currently ahead of Birmingham City, where Brady holds a minority stake. The two clubs clashed earlier this month, with the Blues emerging victorious.

Before the match at St Andrew's, Brady and McElhenney were seen sharing a moment in the center circle for Brady's vlog documenting his trip to watch Birmingham. However, the friendly banter took a competitive turn when it was revealed that Manning had joined Wrexham as a co-chairman.

On Brady's YouTube channel, the pair discussed Manning's new role with Wrexham, which was highlighted by a post from the Welsh club featuring Manning donning their jersey. Manning himself stoked the rivalry by resharing the image and cheekily challenging Brady: "Now I can beat @TomBrady in football and Futbol! Go @Wrexham_AFC! ".

Brady responded to McElhenney's move to involve Manning, the quarterback who twice defeated him in Super Bowl finals, with a candid reaction: "Why do you pull him out of the bag? That's bulls***! You got right to my kryptonite! " McElhenney quickly passed the buck to Reynolds, saying: "That was Ryan's idea and Eli is a funny guy."

The Pats icon couldn't resist poking fun at McElhenney for his seemingly wavering Eagles allegiance. In disbelief, he ribbed: "You're an Eagles fan, how are you calling in him as a reinforcement, that's ridiculous." To which a chagrined McElhenney could only offer a head shake and the admission, "I know, believe me, it pains me."

However, Brady would ultimately snatch the bragging rights as his team, Birmingham, staged an impressive comeback to triumph over Wrexham 3-1 in a match that was anything but uneventful. Jack Marriott put the visitors ahead within minutes, but League One's record acquisition, Jay Stansfield, secured a double after sealing a jaw-dropping £20m move - a historic figure for any third-tier team. Tomoki Iwata then added a goal to seal victory for the Blues.

Tensions ran high as Wrexham's ex-Premier League star James McClean found himself at the centre of controversy, engaging with the Birmingham faithful who hurled objects at him while he provocatively showcased a contentious tattoo and lobbed insults back at the crowd. Meanwhile, Paul Mullin narrowly restrained himself from retaliating and biting Blues defender Alex Cochrane following a clash during the game.

With one game more played than Birmingham, Wrexham's precarious position at the top is under threat, resting solely on their goal difference a lead that could soon crumble if Chris Davies' squad maintains their spirited charge up the League One table.
