Iconic '90s rock band show cut

Iconic rock band Jane's Addiction saw their show in Boston on Friday night brought to an abrupt end after an alternation and scuffle on stage between band members and backstage crew.

Lead singer Perry Farrell, 65, seemed to get increasingly more agitated with 57-year-old guitarist Dave Navarro during Ocean Days and started screaming into the microphone before squaring up to the guitar player, while he still cracked out a solo at high volume. Perry barged into Dave before taking a swing at him as the singer lost his composure and had to be fended off by the guitarist as he looked to swing another punch at him.

Crew members rushed from backstage to remonstrate with the singer before bassist Eric Avery joined the fray as Perry continued to be agitated. It took four or five people to wrestle the singer from the stage as he looked to continue his attack on the guitarist, who calmly placed his instrument down on the stage before shaking hands with members of the audience.

Fans at the show had taken to social media to suggest that tensions on stage had been increasing throughout the show before it exploded in violence, bringing the night to an end after just nine songs.

With the stage bathed in dark blue lighting, Navarro, Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins came back onstage, hugging each other and waving to the crowd as they were clapped and cheered. This is the band's first tour for 15 yeas and they have dates through until the middle of October. Fans are now unclear as to whether these will go ahead after the scenes onstage on Friday.

Perry had told fans at a previous gig that he was struggling with his voice, was unable to hit some of the notes and was frustrated at not knowing why this had suddenly happened. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, fans shared their thoughts and concerns about how the Jane's Addiction gig came to a sudden end. One lamented in a post, writing: "For sure that this was last day of J Addiction".

Another added that they thought this would be the last time the band would perform together: "I was there. The crowd was bemused. Half p****d the show ended early and half excited we may have seen the last Janes A show ever."

A third posted that this should be a warning to younger rock bands: "Well, looks like the band won't be getting back together. That was wild. Kids, let this be a lesson... don't do drugs and anger will eat you up inside."
