Friday the 13th to remember for young Cork teenager as he rides stunning 467-1 treble with his only three rides of the night
Daniel King, who idolised Davy Russell and Ruby Walsh growing up, rode his first three-timer at Ballrinrobe
It was a Friday the 13th to remember for young Cork rider Daniel King at Ballinrobe on Friday when he completed an incredible 467-1 treble with his only three mounts.
The feat was 19-year-old King’s first ever treble and came on Solar Drive (9/2) in the opening 3YO Hurdle, Ah Fuhgeddaboudit (4-1) in the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle and Likeable Chancer (16-1) in the Handicap Chase.
Amazingly King, from Kilbrin in Co Cork, has now ridden his last four horses to win having also won on Avondale at Galway last Tuesday.
“It’s great. My season was slow enough to get going but thankfully it’s picked up and I’m starting to get a few more rides,” said King on Racing TV.
“It’s great when you have days like this and all the hard work pays off. I was hopeful that I would get a winner but to get three it’s great. I’m very lucky that I have great people supporting me throughout my career and only for them it couldn’t be done.
“All my family have been very good to me and I’ve been with Denis Hogan since I was 16 and he’s been very good to me as well. I couldn’t have done it without all these people.
“When I was younger I wanted to go jumping but I started off on the Flat to get a bit of experience and to tidy up my riding.”
"The likes of Davy Russell and Ruby Walsh, I really looked up to them," added King, who rode over 30 winners on the flat before concentrating on jumping.
