Jack Grealish loses thousands of Instagram followers after Ireland goal celebration

Jack Grealish may have been on the scoresheet as England trounced Ireland at the Aviva Stadium last weekend but his goal celebrations came at a price.
Former Ireland underage star Grealish opted to change allegiance at senior level and has gone on to play for the Three Lions 38 times.
And despite his Irish heritage and underage roots, Grealish did not take a leaf out of the same book as teammate Declan Rice and opted to celebrate his goal.

However, it appears his decision came at a price after a new study by online casino comparison site Casino Alpha examined Grealish's social media statistics and found that the Man City star has lost 58,995 followers in the last 30 days.
The study also found Grealish lost 2,381 followers that day while Rice saw a small decline of 110 followers.
A spokesperson from Casino Alpha commented on the findings: “Jack Grealish's decision to celebrate so exuberantly after scoring against Ireland—a country he represented in his youth—was bound to cause controversy, especially among most Irish fans who viewed it as a personal affront. His recent loss of Instagram followers is a textbook example of how public perception can directly influence an athlete's social media presence.
“While a loss of 58,995 followers in 30 days may not seem like a seismic shift in the context of his m, it's significant in illustrating how emotionally charged national identity can be in sports.
“In the era of social media, athletes’ personal and professional lives are constantly under scrutiny, and even minor actions, such as a goal celebration, can trigger a large-scale backlash.”
