The Wolfe Tones are the latest to criticise Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing and said they would not want their own fans to feel overcharged.

A furore erupted after standing tickets to see Oasis in Croke Park next summer were advertised as from €86.50 but were sold at over €400.

The ticket agency came under intense scrutiny because of the price hike for the “in demand” tickets. Wolfe Tones songwriter Brian Warfield (78) hopes to support Oasis for the Dublin gigs but explained to the Irish Mirror that he is against dynamic pricing.

He said: “It is unfair. The cost of a ticket is a certain price. To then up the cost as more people look for a ticket is just unfair. Even if they had set the cost at €200, that should be the price. You want everyone to be happy.

“It should be a fair price, whatever that is, to get into a concert. Obviously, if people are quoted over €400 for a ticket, it’s their choice to buy it. But it is a big rise to go and over €400. I never heard of this ticket-selling policy before. To just double and treble the price is unfair to fans. I wouldn’t want that to happen to our fans.”

Meanwhile, the Wolfe Tones legend said they'd like to support Oasis at their Croke Park gigs. Brian said: “There have been no talks, but I’d like to do, I’d like it to happen.”

Taoiseach Simon Harris is among the critics who have voiced disapproval of dynamic pricing. Hundreds of thousands of fans entered a “virtual queue” on the Ticketmaster website last Saturday to buy tickets for Oasis’ reunion gigs.

The Croke Park standing tickets for next August had been advertised as starting from €86.50. But that price quickly rose to over €155 – and eventually some fans were asked to pay over €400 for “in demand” standing tickets.

Mr Harris said: “There's a bad taste in the mouths of people here in relation to the pricing surcharge and we do have to be conscious we are dealing with a monopoly situation here as well. I would very much welcome a probe in relation to this and a full report being able to be provided.”
