John Hunt has addressed the messages of support he has received after his wife and two daughters were murdered in a crossbow attack.

ITV's Mark Chapman, a friend of the BBC racing commentator, has said that Mr Hunt feels that every message of support "feels like a hug" and that he is "very thankful that people are thinking about' him and his third daughter, Amy".

Carol Hunt, 61, Hannah Hunt, 28, and Louise Hunt, 25, are thought to have been discovered with fatal injuries by husband and father John - who works for BBC Five Live racing - when he returned to the family home in Bushey on June 9. Despite the efforts of emergency services the women all died at the scene.

Mr Chapman spoke to the BBC about his contact with Mr Chapman, explaining that he had been told that "every message that's been sent, every one of those messages feels like a hug". He continued: "As far as what's happened, it's still beyond belief that this could happen to anyone, a family in the world. The message from all of us is when you need us [John], we are here."

It comes as the man arrested for the killings, 26-year-old Kyle Clifford, has reportedly been left paralysed. He has still not been questioned by police over the deaths.

After a manhunt lasting several hours, Clifford was found unconscious in a cemetery in Enfield, London and rushed to hospital. He remains under arrest in hospital, and it has now been reported that he has been left paralysed from a self-inflicted wound. He is said to have injured his upper body before police could reach him, piercing his own spinal cord.

Hertfordshire Police are yet to question him as a result of his injuries. A force spokesperson told the Mirror : "A suspect remains under arrest and continues to receive treatment in hospital. As a result of his condition officers have not yet been able to interview him. Despite this, detectives from our Major Crime Unit continue with their investigation."

The severity of his self-inflicted injuries mean he is unlikely to ever walk again, reports the Sun. The suspect is alleged to have taken the three women prisoner at the home before murdering them all with a crossbow. Neighbours claimed Clifford was the ex-boyfriend of victim Louise, who allegedly raised the alarm by texting her partner, who contacted police.

Clifford was tracked to Lavender Hill Cemetery after police launched an urgent search for him across Hertfordshire and north London. One aerial video from the cemetery on the day of the manhunt showed a small group of emergency responders alongside a man, believed to be Clifford, who can be seen lying on a stretcher. Three paramedics clad in orange hi-vis jumpsuits then walk out in front, with police officers in black combat gear pass alongside, flanking them on their way out of the cemetery.

It is known that Clifford briefly served in the British Army in 2022 before leaving. A Whitehall source said: "He didn't serve very long and he is no longer a serving member of the armed forces".

In a statement released after the deaths of Carol, Hannah and Louise, Mr Hunt spoke of "devastation on an unimaginable scale". He said: "Notwithstanding the horrid evil that's swept through our lives, wrecking devastation on an unimaginable scale, the counter to that has been the breathtaking messages of support, some of which are still to be read. Amy, my eldest daughter, has been magnificently inspirational with her control and support for me, which I am trying, trying so hard, to replicate. Every message has felt so important, the same as a reassuring hug."
