Ireland striker Saoirse Noonan says she ‘bleeds green’ after landing a move to her childhood idols Celtic.

The former Cork Gaelic footballer will line out for the SWPL champions next season, along with Girls in Green defender Caitlin Hayes.

She has signed a three-year deal and is ready to bang in the goals for her new club.

The ex-Cork City and Shelbourne forward said: “It’s a bit surreal for me. I was a Celtic fan growing up and all my family are Celtic fans. I can’t wait to get going. I thought I’d never get over here, so I’m delighted to be here now.

“I grew up playing on the streets and went to Cork City and then to Shelbourne. Then I crossed the water to Durham.

“Now I’ve made the move up here to Scotland to Celtic. Celtic’s a huge club and I’m delighted to be a part of it now.”

Noonan can’t wait to play in the Champions League with the Glasgow side, when they take on Finnish side KuPS Kuopio in the first qualifying around in September.

“It’s the highest level you can play at in club football,” she said. “To wear the Celtic jersey and go out and play at that level is something any young kid aspires to.

“Seeing the girls win the league and going on to play in the Champions League, it’s something I’ve always dreamt of.

“It’s everyone’s dream and it’s something that I can’t wait to do.”

Noonan added: “It’s been really positive from the get-go. Elena (Sadiku, head coach) showed belief in me, she told me aspects she can see that I can improve and get in to the team.

“I’m Irish. I play with my heart on my sleeve. I bleed green. I’ll give my all, work as hard as I can and hopefully get plenty of goals.”
