Tributes are being paid to a 17-month-old Irish girl who tragically passed away from a rare genetic condition in Australia last week.

Young Maisie, who was living in Sydney with her parents Conor Kehoe from Askeaton in Limerick and Danielle O’Sullivan, originally from Kells in Meath, sadly died unexpectedly last Monday from the rare condition Leigh Syndrome.

On Friday, July 5, Maisie suffered a seizure while Danielle was getting ready for work. Little Maisie was rushed to hospital but unfortunately, her condition worsened. After bravely fighting through the weekend with her parents right by her side, the toddler passed away on Monday.

Tributes have poured in for the little girl who will be “lovingly remembered for the joy she brought to everyone's life” as the “treasured daughter” of her adoring parents.

“To Conor, Danielle, Grandparents and all who mourn Maisie’s unexpected, heartbreaking death, there are no words that will console you all on your huge loss,” one person said.

“Hopefully, your millions of happy memories and recordings of little Maisie will comfort you all as you try to journey through grief and sadness”.

“Deepest heartfelt sympathy to the O'Sullivan and Kehoe families,” another penned.

“Words cannot begin to express the pain and heartbreak you are going through. Life is so so cruel at times. May little Maisie rest in peace with all the other little angels.”

“I am so sorry for you all. This is utterly heartbreaking. Poor beautiful Maisie,” a third said.

Friends of Conor and Danielle have launched a GoFundMe “to help ease some of the financial pressure on them” during a devastating time.

Maisie’s parents also expressed their “heartfelt thanks to the amazing doctors and nurses at Sydney Children's Hospital” as well as the Kevin Bell trust fund.

So far the GoFundMe Page has raised over $260,788 AUD (€161,115). You can donate to the fundraiser here.
