Derry issue statement as Mickey Harte quits as manager after just 10 months
His assistant Gavin Devlin has also left and the process to find a replacement is expected to begin on Tuesday night.
Mickey Harte has stepped down as Derry senior football manager after just one season in charge, with his assistant Gavin Devlin also departing.
The three-time Tyrone All-Ireland winning boss was the surprise choice to succeed Ciaran Meenagh last September having guided Derry’s arch rivals to three All-Ireland titles in the noughties.
The Ballygawley man, who had spend three seasons with Louth, was also appointed on a three-year term and his tenure got off to a perfect start.

Derry retained the Dr McKenna Cup in January before securing the Division One title with a penalty shootout win over reigning All-Ireland champions Dublin in Croke Park.
However, the Oak Leafers endured a stunning fall from grace in the Championship - losing out to Donegal in the Ulster Championship before suffering further defeats to Galway and Armagh in the All-Ireland series.
The process to find a new manager in Derry is expected to begin on Tuesday night.
In a statement released by Derry GAA, Harte said: “I would like to thank the players for the huge commitment they gave to the Derry jersey during the 2024 season.
“I would also like to thank Gavin and the entire backroom team for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
“Thanks too for the support of the County Board and all those generous sponsors of the GAA in Derry. Finally, I wish the players every success in the years ahead.”
Chairperson of Derry GAA, John Keenan, thanked Harte for his efforts in 2024.
"We sincerely thank Mickey, Gavin and their entire backroom team for their hard work and dedication throughout the 2024 season. We wish them the very best in their future endeavours."
