A second man in his 50s has been arrested by Gardaí as part of a multi-million euro cannabis haul at the start of the weekend.

Approximately 343kgs of herbal cannabis (worth around €6,860,000) was seized during the raid between the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) and Revenue's Customs Service on Friday in the Dublin 3 area.

Gardaí arrested a man in his late 20s as part of this investigation. He was detained at a Garda Station in Dublin under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 but has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

On Sunday, a second man, aged in his early 50s, was arrested as part of this investigation and he is currently being detained at a Garda Station in Dublin under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A Revenue spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “As part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 343kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €6,860,000 in the Dublin area.

“The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB).”

Both Gardaí and Revenue confirmed that investigations into this seizure and arrest are ongoing.
