Spain star Pedri leaves pitch in tears after suffering fresh injury heartbreak vs Germany
Pedri was forced off in the opening stages of Spain's quarter-final match with Germany at Euro 2024 after hurting himself in a full-blooded challenge with Toni Kroos
A tearful Pedri trudged off the pitch in tears just minutes into Spain 's meeting with Germany in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals after suffering another injury.
The talented youngster was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Toni Kroos, who sent the Barcelona man crashing to the turf in just the second minute.
After treatment, Pedri recognised he was unable to continue and was overcome with emotion as he was replaced by Dani Olmo.
The midfield maestro, 21, has been plagued by injuries in recent years after making the breakthrough at Barcelona as a teenager. He appeared to injure his knee in the clash with Kross, who went powerfully into a challenge and was perhaps fortunate to escape without being booked by referee Anthony Taylor.
Pedri and Barcelona will be hopeful that his latest issue is not a long-term one, as will Spain should they beat Germany and advance to the Euro 2024 semi-finals. The Spanish Football Federation later confirmed that Pedri had suffered an 'internal lateral sprain to his left-knee'.
Luis de la Fuente's side have arguably been the standout side at this summer's tournament and their showdown with host nation Germany is easily the standout quarter-final tie as the competition reaches its latter stage.
Pedri was not the only Spain player on the receiving end of rough challenges in Stuttgart as Julian Nagelsmann's side attempted to stamp their authority on the match.

Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal was also clattered in the opening minutes in a feisty match. Both sides traded blows but neither were unable to find a breakthrough before the interval, even if Olmo and Kai Havertz both went close for their respective teams.
The winner of Friday evening's match will face either France or Portugal in the semi-finals with England on the other side of the draw. Gareth Southgate's side face Switzerland on Saturday for a place in the final four.
