Ireland will celebrate their Olympic centenary this year by sending a record-breaking number of Irish athletes to next month’s games in the French capital.

With days remaining for athletes to qualify for France, the Irish team stands at 132 and counting, blowing the amount of Irish Olympians that debuted in Paris 1924 out of the water. The previous record is the 116 that travelled to Tokyo in 2020.

Sarah Keane, president of the Olympic Federation of Ireland, declared that Ireland are medal contenders at these games.

"We do not go to participate, we go to compete," she said.

Keane's term as Olympic chief will come to an end later this year following a seven-year stint in charge, overseeing an increased relationship with the Irish government and sending the highest amount of Irish athletes to the games ever this year.

It will also be the most experienced squad of athletes coming from the Emerald Isle. Dublin's boxer Kellie Harrington and Skibbereen oarsmen Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan are looking to defend their Olympic gold medals this year following great success at Tokyo 2020.

Ireland's highest medal tally of six came in London 2012 when only 66 competitors made the trip. With over double that amount this time out, another record could be broken this Summer for the nation.

RTÉ have pledged to broadcast all 17 days of the 2024 games, showing over 250 hours of coverage including Irish athletes on television ensuring audiences are connected with all the action in Paris.

The athletes heading to Paris so far are:
