This weekend will be a washout with showers, thundery downpours and a weather warning hitting the country.

Met Éireann has warned that showers and heavy rain will continue over the weekend with temperatures remaining cool for this time of year over the next few days, although the weather is set to improve slightly next week.

Although Friday will begin dry, Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather has said that showers are set to move in from the rest before turning heavy ahead of weather warnings becoming active.

Met Eireann, national forecaster, has issued a Status Yellow Rain alert for Dublin, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow warning there would be heavy rain at times starting at 10pm on Friday night and lasting into 6am on Saturday.
