England's pitiful ticket allocation for Euro 2024 quarter-final as fans invade Dusseldorf

England fans will descend on Dusseldorf for Saturday's quarter-final clash despite fans only being handed 6,700 tickets.

The official allocation given to the Three Lions is tiny given their supporter base and the amount of individuals expected to be in the German city. Dusseldorf's stadium holds 47,000 which has led to a desperate scramble for tickets ahead of the Switzerland clash.

It means that currently tickets are trading for huge amounts on resale websites. Prices are already into the thousands as fans clamour to be part of the crowd for the last eight clash. It is estimated than more than 40,000 fans will descend on the German city - with or without a ticket.

Despite having a huge capacity Dusseldorf's stadium also has to house numerous sponsors, UEFA and country delegates which eats into the amount of tickets that can be sold to the fans of the teams playing.

Unlike in Gelsenkirchen against Serbia in their opening game, where there were measures in place to control the amount of drink consumed, Dusseldorf will operate as normal. The German city is known as ‘the world ’s longest bar’ thanks to the more than 300 pubs in its old town area.

The weekend's clash kicks off at 6pm local time - 5pm back in the UK - as England look to make the last four of the Euros for a second successive tournament. Much has been made of their favourable half of the draw, but the Three Lions are yet to really click into gear.

They needed a late equaliser to force extra-time against Slovakia last time out before Harry Kane headed an extra-time winner. The victor of England's clash with Switzerland will play either the Netherlands or Turkey in the last four next week.

Leading light Phil Foden admits the heat on Gareth Southgate is unfair with the players instead needing to shoulder the burden. “I feel sorry for Gareth," he said. “In training, he has been telling us to press and be high up on the pitch and I feel like sometimes, it has to come from the players.

“We have to be leaders. In games we could have got together a little bit more and worked out a solution. So yes, we have spoken about it more. If it happens again in a game, we can get together and find a solution, see where it is going wrong and adapt our press.”

The other side of the draw remains stacked with two of France, Portugal, Spain or Germany contesting the semi-final. Holders Italy are already out whilst the top nations have performed to differing degrees - the Spanish have impressed whilst France are yet to score from open play.
