Integration Minister and Green Party leadership hopeful Roderic O’Gorman presented an unusual gift to the Irish Mirror when we sat down for an interview with the Minister earlier this week.

While the Irish Mirror is not taking sides in the Green Party leadership debate, we were provided with a side dish when we visited the office of Minister O’Gorman on Dublin’s Baggot Street on Monday morning.

The gift? A bag of potatoes from the Dublin West TD’s Blanchardstown garden.

We attended a press conference with Mr O’Gorman at Bord Bia Bloom in June. While this journalist asked a list of questions about the immigration situation, I was also tasked with asking the Minister if he was green-fingered.

He spoke at length about the potato and tomato crops in his garden. This led to a debate between Mr O’Gorman and former Green MEP Ciaran Cuffe about who had a better potato patch. The Irish Mirror later obtained pictures of both men’s crops to compare and contrast.

When we arrived at Minister O’Gorman’s office this week, a full month after the Spud Wars, he presented the Irish Mirror with a bag of potatoes that he had picked from his own garden.

He advised us to "give them a scrub" and either steam or boil them to eat them with butter.

At the time of publication, they have yet to be eaten.
