A US-born and Dublin-raised Dundalk prospect, who has been capped for Ireland at schools level, will line out for the Dominican Republic in a World Cup qualification tournament in Mexico.

Aidan Russell was born in the USA to an Irish father and a Dominican mother, and spent the first eight months of his life there before moving to his dad's homeland.

Now with Dundalk's Under-20s, he was previously with Shelbourne at Under-15 level before moving up the M1 in 2022.

Russell has long been watched by the FAI's emerging talent scouts and underage international coaches, and last year won six caps at schoolboy level. He was selected in the squad earlier this year for the Centenary Cup

He was called up last year by the Dominican FA for their Under-17 CONCACAF World Cup qualification tournament, but he did not receive his passport in time to accept the invite.

Russell has already featured for Dundalk's first-team in a pre-season friendly earlier this year.

Dundalk posted on social media the news of his selection, which could see him line out against El Salvador, Canada and Honduras in the CONCACAF U20 Championship, which gets underway in Mexico on July 20th.
