Oscar-winning director Neil Jordan has admitted he wouldn’t like to be an actor because he wouldn’t like the fame that comes with it.

The Crying Game hitmaker said he wouldn’t like the fame and attention that comes with being a mainstream star.

He said: "You know I don’t think I’d like to be an actor really. I’d hate the fame that goes with it.

"I don’t understand why people would want that in their lives," he told the RTE Guide.

The Michael Collins director is busy promoting his new memoir, Amnesiac, where he opens up about his first marriage to Vivienne Shields, describing the nuptials as a "mistake" amongst other revelations including writing that convicted Harvey Weinstein "should have been tried for theft long before" sex crimes.

He said: "Vivienne’s was my wife’s name, and I did her the great disservice of marrying her (but only after numerous attempts to avoid that fate).

"It was a mistake. We should have just gone to London and forgot about what our parents thought – although my parents didn’t care that much really.

"Marriage is a huge commitment; we were young and just because parents would be upset that you’re sleeping together is an odd one."
