Taoiseach Simon Harris has declared he has a "bone to pick with Taylor Swift" as the popstar arrives in Dublin this weekend to perform for thousands.

Excited fans will descend on the capital city this weekend as the American popstar, 34, performs three sell-out gigs in the Aviva Stadium.

Mr Harris, who was in Brussels for a European Council meeting on Friday, told the Irish Mirror that while he is not going to any of the gigs this weekend, he would relish an opportunity to meet Ms Swift to sort out an issue he has with her.

"I have a bone to pick with Taylor Swift, actually," he said.

"We're delighted to have her and delighted to have her in Ireland.

"But she did take a pebble from a beach in Greystones. She sings about it in Sweet Nothing. Greystones being my hometown, I'm very pleased that Taylor enjoys Wicklow.

"But I’d like my pebble back."

He later added that he was joking but would "like to know a little bit more about it."

"She does ponder in the song, you know, doesthe pebble ever miss Wicklow," he continued.

"Sure, anyone would miss Wicklow. She is very welcome back to County Wicklow at any time. I'm not sure whether she'll have time to visit this time, but she's very welcome.

"I’d be delighted to show her the location and many more pebbles that we have in the beautiful town of Greystones."

Former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar hit headlines in 2019 when it emerged that he had written Kylie Minogue a letter offering to personally welcome her to Dublin ahead of a gig in 2018.

The viral 'Dear Kylie' letter was written on official headed paper from the Department of the Taoiseach.

Asked by the Irish Mirror if he would write Ms Swift a letter offering to show her around Wicklow, the Taoiseach laughed but said that he "won’t be writing to her".

He continued: "On a serious level, whilst I won't be going, I don’t have a ticket, I am really conscious that actually it's a moment of great excitement for many, many, many people right across the country.

"I actually think this is going to be a great weekend for our capital city between the GAA matches, Longitude in Marley Park, Shania Twain in Malahide, obviously Taylor Swift, Pride, there's a lot of really exciting events happening.

"I'm hoping that it's going to be a really good weekend so that people can enjoy, can celebrate and, of course, can stay safe as well."

Several Government ministers, including Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe and Media Minister Catherine Martin, will be among revellers in the Aviva Stadium this weekend.
