Eamonn Holmes appeared to make a barbed dig at his former wife Ruth Langsford as he made his first public appearance since their split.

The GB News presenter, 64, attended the annual TRIC Awards on Tuesday for the first time without Ruth. Last month, the duo shocked fans when they announced they had parted ways after 14 years of marriage. Eamonn decided to put on a brave face and head to the awards ceremony solo, where he was seen in a wheelchair.

During the ceremony, Eamonn took to the stage to collect the award for best breakfast show alongside his co-host Isabel Webster. As he took to the microphone the star appeared to take a swipe at his estranged wife.

In his acceptance speech, Eamonn said: "I got two things in my back that I didn't want," seemingly referring to an operation for his chronic pain and Ruth.

He told the celeb-filled crowd: "Thank you very much for this award. We were up against world class programmes and that makes it a little bit more special. Sometimes we all think about imposter syndrome."

The broadcaster added: "I went for an operation a year and a half ago and it went wrong," then quipped: "I got two things in my back that I didn’t want." Eamonn also spoke to The Mirror during the starry bash, where he got very candid about his recent split and admitted: “I’m not OK. This is not a good time at all." Eamonn told us: "It’s too early to say but I hope we can still be friends."

He even confessed to feeling as if he is on "borrowed time", as his father died at the age of 65 from a fatal heart attack in 1991. Eamonn revealed he was unsure he would make it to the ceremony due to his health, but was able to use a high-tech wheelchair. "I wasn’t going to come, but I’ve got this new chair with all these gadgets," he said.

The GB News star was pictured sat alone while at the awards show and was later joined by guests including Christine McGuinness and Angellica Bell. Christine could be seen holding Eamonn's hand with an arm placed around his shoulder as they smiled at the camera. Eamonn donned a black suit, white shirt and blue tie.

Ahead of the TRIC Awards, sources close to Eamonn said they were unsure if he would be able to attend due to issues with his back. "He would like to go but it is in the balance, a lot will depend on how he feels on the day," the source told The Mirror. On Tuesday, Eamonn confirmed his attendance with an Instagram post after he decided to skip the red carpet. He quietly snuck into the venue where he shared a snap from his table waiting for his food to be served. "Whatever the results, a nice lunch awaits #Tricawards," he wrote.

Eamonn had previously praised Ruth for her constant support. Last month, they said in a statement: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing." Eamonn previously addressed the news as he said: “We'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."
