Jos Verstappen declared Red Bull 's period of dominance over as he called for change at his son's Formula 1 team.

Max Verstappen has ruled the F1 world since 2022 and began the current season in a league of his own once again. But in recent weeks the Dutchman has been placed under intense pressure by rivals.

Lando Norris won in Miami at the start of this month and pushed him all the way two weeks later at Imola. And on Sunday Charles Leclerc won an F1 race for the first time in two years while Red Bull struggled throughout the entire Monaco Grand Prix weekend.

Verstappen could only qualify sixth and complained that his car felt like a "go-kart" in places on the Monte Carlo street track. With overtaking virtually impossible in Monaco, he finished the race in the same position - his worst result in a race he has completed since Brazil 2022.

And his father Jos is clearly unhappy with the situation. Speaking to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Verstappen Snr took an indirect swipe at Horner and suggested change is needed for Red Bull to get themselves back into a position of power.

He said: "The era when Red Bull had the dominant car really seems to be over now. Maybe they should start focusing a bit more on racing and mutual communication again, rather than on other things... There will definitely be races where Red Bull will be in good shape again, but I am very curious to see how they are going to solve this.

"Something really needs to happen there. Red Bull needs to find out where this problem is coming from, because it is clear that teams like Ferrari and McLaren are getting closer. Max has still been able to mask that somewhat, but the big difference with Sergio Perez is becoming more and more obvious."

It is certainly not the first time Verstappen's father has been critical of Red Bull in recent times. In March, when Christian Horner was under investigation having been accused of inappropriate behaviour by a female colleague - an allegation he denied - the 52-year-old called for the team principal to be removed from his position.

"There is tension here while he remains in position," he told The Mail. "The team is in danger of being torn apart. It can't go on the way it is. It will explode. He is playing the victim, when he is the one causing the problems."

Horner was cleared of any wrongdoing after Red Bull hired an external investigator to look into the complaint. His accuser has since appealed that decision and an outcome to that process has yet to be made public.
