Piers Morgan has spoken out following his interview with the woman claiming to be the 'real-life' Martha Scott from Netflix show Baby Reindeer.

The controversial broadcaster had a sit down interview with the woman, who the Mirror has chosen not to name or identify via photographs. Baby Reindeer has become a viral sensation after Richard Gadd starred as struggling comedian Donny Dunn. He wrote the series which documented Donny's strange and layered relationship with a woman named Martha, played by Jessica Gunning, whose initially friendly demeanour unravels as she begins to stalk Donny relentlessly.

Martha ends up sending Donny more than 41,000 emails, 744 tweets, 100 pages of letters and 350 hours of voicemails. In a bid "to set the record straight", the woman claiming to be the real-life Martha spoke to former Good Morning Britain news anchor Piers Morgan. She made a series of bombshell claims during the interview which aired on Thursday evening.

Piers has since said there was one claim in particular made by the woman during their chat that "rang alarm bells" for him. He said he found her to be "intelligent, quick-thinking, and combative. Her general behaviour, on and off camera, with me and my team didn’t give any of us cause for concern about either her potential danger or her mental state, though it should be said that stalkers can be very convincing in their ability to hide their real personalities or obsessive intent," Piers wrote in The Sun.

He said he had "suspicious alarm bells" when the woman said: "Even if the email thing was true, the rest is not." Piers pointed out that in the show, Martha sent over 41,000 emails. He claimed he also found it odd the woman said she had up to six email addresses and four mobile phones that she uses for different people. "That’s not normal," Piers said.

Piers highlighted in her article that the woman "made a series of emphatic blanket denials about how long she knew Gadd" as well as how much contact they had with each other. The woman claimed she had sent Gadd only one letter, while he had claimed to have received more than 100. However, Gadd has publicly expressed his view that the woman (whom he based the character Matha on) is also a victim and that the whole drama surrounding the series has turned into "a mess".

While the woman made a series of claims during the interview that several things were inaccurate about the Netflix dramatisation. It included that Gadd never offered her a free cup of tea, and she never messaged him as much as Gadd's character said she did. However, in the interview, she told Piers: "It's completely untrue. Very, very defamatory to me, very career-damaging. And I wanted to rebut that completely on this show. I'm not a stalker. I've not been to jail, I've not got injunctions. And this is just complete nonsense."
