North West 200 rider lands on car after somersaulting through air in high-speed crash

A rider who somersaulted through the air before landing on a parked car after a high-speed crash at the North West 200 has updated fans on his injuries.
Paul Cassidy took a heavy tumble during Thursday's practice session at the Triangle circuit. He says the incident happened on a right-hand bend just after the start/finish area, understood to be Millbank Avenue.
Footage shared on social media shows Cassidy's bike mounting the footpath before colliding with a protective barrier, throwing him into the air where he did a number of somersaults before landing on the car.
It was a terrifying ordeal, but thankfully Cassidy - from Castletown in the Isle of Man - avoided any serious injury. Indeed, the parked car appeared to come off worse, with photos showing significant damage to the bonnet and bumper.
He said on social media: "As you all know I had a little off at NW200. I'm all OK just bloody sore. I was behind a rider and had just clicked fourth. I believe his bike cut out or something on the first right after the start. The marshals said the same thing too. He pulled to the left then looking over his left shoulder not knowing I was going round him and we collided together."
"Unfortunately nothing I could do at that sort of speed. Big thank you to everyone for all support. All the medical staff did a cracking job. Went up around 25ft and landed in the garden on someone's car."
Fans were quick to send Cassidy their best wishes.
One said on X: "My goodness…great to read that the rider is OK."
Another added: Oh my goodness. Shocking. So glad he’s ok."
There were three red flag incidents during Thursday's practice session involving three separate riders. Organisers confirmed that none of the competitors sustained serious injuries, although two were taken to hospital for "assessment and treatment".
