A one-year-old child killed in a tragic road accident on Wednesday afternoon has been named as Hunter Molloy.

It is understood the tot had been playing with his aunt just before he was hit by a car on the Quin Road in Ennis, Co Clare just after 12pm. The infant was rushed to University Hospital Limerick but was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Paying tribute just hours afterwards, a heartbroken aunt of Hunter's posted online: “My little nephew. I was playing with you two minutes before you passed away. My heart can’t take any more, please lord take me away from this cruel world. R.I.P our hunter, may you have the best bed in heaven. Please God get his parents through this heartache. Uncle Thomas and Uncle Jim will have their arms wrapped around you, no doubt.

Clare Traveller Community Development Project also made a statement expressing their deepest condolences to Hunter's family.
