Evil child killer Andy Cash appears to have been disowned by his family. A Mountjoy Prison source has claimed that none of them have visited him in jail since his arrest 20 months ago, and the only people who came to see him were his legal team.

The 26-year-old received three life sentences this week after he pleaded guilty to the horrific murders of his eight-year-old twin brother and sister, Christy and Chelsea, and 18-year-old sister Lisa, at their home in Tallaght on September 4, 2022. The psychopath stabbed his siblings over 200 times between them and has not given an explanation why he did it.

A Mountjoy source said it appears he has been "completely disowned" and that "none of this family want anything to do with him", based on the absence of visits from anyone but his lawyers.

They claimed: "He is the last little fella you'd expect to be a monster, he is quiet and hardly ever says anything. He has not told anyone here why he did what he did and the only people who visit him are his lawyers. He is persona non grata and nobody wants anything to do with him. He is also in danger from other hardcore inmates who hate child killers with a vengeance."

Cash was kept for over a year in the psychiatric medical unit of Mountjoy that is overseen by staff from the Central Mental Hospital. He was put on medication and assessed by psychologists and psychiatrists. He shared a landing with Stephen Silver - the brute who shot dead hero Garda Colm Horkan - but they spent most of the days in the unit on their own in their rooms.

Silvers is also serving a life sentence for capital murder after being found guilty in April last year of the Roscommon detective's shocking killing. He shot Garda Horkan 11 times at point blank range and blamed his lifelong history of mental illness for the incident but the jury didn't buy it. He will have to serve a minimum of 30 years behind bars before he can be freed.

The source said: "Cash and Silver would know each other because they were both being treated there at the same time. They would have mixed with each other in the landing at the psychiatric unit in Mountjoy."

Andy Cash was then moved a few months ago to the medical unit in what is known as the Progressive Unit in Mountoy but he was deliberately kept away from the general prison population for his own safety.

The Mountjoy source added: "Andy Cash has more or less been on constant suicide watch since he came in here and we continue to monitor him. We believe he is still a danger to himself."

Cash received three life sentences for his crimes which will run concurrently. However he is likely to serve at least 30 years before he sees the light of day again.

The mother of the three dead children, Margaret McDonagh told Cash at the trial on Tuesday: " My whole world is gone. We must live with the pain every second of every day."

Andy Cash continues to be detained in Mountjoy and will serve his life sentences there.

The Irish Prison Service said it does not comment on individual prisoner cases.
