Irish Premier League star Killian Phillips returned to Drogheda United to watch them beat Dundalk 2-1 in a dramatic Louth Derby on Monday afternoon.

The Killbarrack man could be seen running across the pitch before play began and was roared on by the more than 2,300 fans in attendance. Phillips took his place in the ultras section in the Crosslanes stand and watched from that vantage point.

After a turgid first-half- Frantz Pierrot gave Drogheda the lead after half-time to send Weaver's Park into raptures. Dundalk equalised after Drogheda were reduced to 10-men, but centre-back Hayden Cann popped up in the 94th minute to win it for the Drogs.

That win moved Drogheda five-points clear of Dundalk at the foot of the table, heaping pressure on Noel King's side.

The atmosphere was raucous well before kick-off but ratcheted up when fans saw Phillips making his way into the crowd. Phillips, who played for Drogheda in 2020/2021 before moving to Crystal Palace, is currently on loan at Scottish side Aberdeen. The midfielder has made 13 appearances for The Dons and is a mainstay of Ireland's u21 side.

Speaking after the game, Drogheda manager Kevin Doherty said: “We’ve had great wins here against Shamrock Rovers, Dundalk and St Pat’s – that was a 94th minute winner last year – but this tops them all because of the circumstances,”
