A man has appeared in court over the alleged attack on three women in a house in Co Louth last Friday.

Nicholas Muckian (47) appeared in front of Judge Eirinn McKiernan at Dundalk District Court this morning.

He is charged with assault causing harm to the three women at a house in the Glenwood estate in the town last Friday.

The three alleged victims are in their 80s, 70s and forties. Mr Muckian, with an address in Glenwood, Dundalk also faces another charge of unlawfully intimidating another person with a hatchet.

It’s alleged all the offences were committed last Friday, May 5. Garda Kate Brady told the court there would be an objection to bail, but defence solicitor Aimee McCumiskey said there would be no application at this time.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan remanded Mr. Muckian in custody to Dundalk District Court next Wednesday for the directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. She also directed that 48 hours’ notice be given to the State if a bail application is to be made.

Judge McKiernan directed that Mr Muckian, who did not speak during the short court case and wore a grey jumper, receive an urgent medical assessment and attention. The accused was also granted legal aid.
