A man was hospitalised after a shocking evening time assault just outside of Limerick city centre.

One week ago, on Wednesday, May 1, gardaí rushed to respond to reports of an assault which took place at around 5:20pm near houses at Hawthorn Place in Rathbane, Limerick.

One man aged in his 30s was conveyed to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of non-life threatening injuries received as a result of this incident.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the shocking assault to come forward and make contact with authorities.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí received a report of an incident of assault that occurred at approximately 5:20pm on 1 May on Hawthorn Place in Rathbane, Co Limerick.”

They added: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are also requesting those with camera footage (including dashcam) from the area at the time to make it available to them.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station at (061) 214 340.”
