The funeral of a teenage girl, described as a 'beautiful angel', who died in a horror crash over the Bank Holiday weekend is to take place on Thursday, May 9.

Molly Dempsey, who had just turned 15 at the end of January, was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed in Slaney Park, Baltinglass in Co Wicklow at around 5am on Sunday morning, May 5.

Described by her friends as "the most loving, caring and kind-hearted person," Molly was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

The driver of the car, a male also in his teens, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act. He has since been released and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Molly’s death is the latest her heartbroken family has suffered in recent years.

One of Molly’s older brothers, Roy, died tragically in September 2007 when he was just 13 years of age.

And in 2016 the Dempsey family suffered further heartache with another of Molly’s brothers, Killian, dying suddenly. He was just 16 years of age.

Molly, who came from a well-respected family in Baltinglass, is now the 71st person to die on the state’s roads in 2024 – up 18 on the same time period last year.

Molly’s funeral details have now been announced on RIP.ie. Her death notice reads: "Molly, the beloved sister of the late Roy and Killian. Sadly missed by her heart-broken parents Nigel and Mary, brothers Joe, Charlie and Jake, sisters Laura, Yvonne and Ella, grandmother May (Fox) and Dolly (Dempsey), uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family and many friends.

"Reposing at her residence on Thursday from 12 noon and concluding at 8pm. House private, thereafter please."

Molly’s funeral Mass will take place in St Joseph’s Church, Baltinglass on Friday morning for 11am Requiem Mass.

Afterwards, Molly will be laid to rest in Baltinglass Cemetery.

Mourners paid tribute and offered condolences to Molly’s heartbroken family with one writing in the Condolence section: "Our heartfelt condolences to Molly’s Mam, Dad and family at this tragic time. As parents ourselves, we were overcome with deep sadness and heartache when hearing this dreadful news, please know you are in everyone’s thoughts and prayers," while another wrote: "Sending my deepest condolences to the Dempsey family on the tragic passing of Molly. No words come to mind now that will help you on the journey you have ahead. My thoughts and prayers are with you all."

Earlier, a heartbroken family member wrote on social media: "Fly high baby girl. You have broken our hearts. Watch over us all," while a pal wrote: "Molly, you have broken my heart in pieces.

"In your short life you have brought many laughs and smiles to people all around you," the friend added.

"I know for sure you have always put a smile on my face and never failed to make me laugh with your goofiness and your great personality.

"You were the most loving, caring and kind-hearted person that I’ve ever come across and would always go above and beyond for anyone.

"You always had a cheeky smile on your face and a cheeky little smile at that.

"I hope your big brothers up there are looking after you and hope you are all looking over your friends and family during this hard time. Rest in peace my beautiful angel. We all love you and miss you so much," the pal wrote.

The road at Slaney Park was closed on Sunday as a technical examination took place.

Gardai continue to appeal for witnesses to contact them, particularly anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been set up called 'In honour of beautiful Molly who tragically lost her life' to raise funds for Molly’s family following her tragic death.

So far, nearly €3,000 has been raised.

The organiser, Charmaine Barry, wrote: "Hi everyone, we are hoping to raise some money for the Dempsey/Fox family who lost Molly, their youngest daughter at only 15 years old, on Sunday morning in a tragic road accident.

"Molly was the youngest of 9 children, two brothers have passed before her. Molly was so energetic. She had the most wonderful personality and would light up the whole room. She loved and adored her niece and nephews. Molly lost her two brothers Roy and Killian and is now reunited with both of them. So today we would like everyone to come together and help this family at one of the most unfortunate times.

"Thank you for taking the time to read this and any donations are very much appreciated."
