Kiera Dignam addresses 'negati

The daughter of the late Aslan star Christy Dignam has hit out at online trolls – saying she is still "heavily in the early stages of grieving".

Kiera Dignam took to social media on Monday to thank everyone for their support, days after she hosted a memorial night for her legendary rock star father at Vicar Street in Dublin.

But Kiera revealed she’s received some “negative online” comments since the gig and wanted to address it in a video message.

The Finglas singer said: “There were days where I was on the way to rehearsals and Darren had to drag me because I thought that I wasn't going to be strong enough to do the other night.

“I think that this is a thank you and it's all positive and everything, I have to say, has been so positive, the love in the room was unbelievable. And the love that we've received since then... but I think it is important to just point out that there can be a few select kind of negative things online in anything and of course that comes with the territory, I get it.

“But I think that sometimes people need to take a little step back and realise that this is not just a job. We are human. And at the end of the day when you strip everything back, I had to go on that stage and celebrate my da. And that's hard.

"We are heavily in the early stages of grieving and anybody who wants to bring something negative to that or me personally online, because to be honest with you, I haven't had any negative to my face but there have been some comments and stuff like that which again, as I said, I get but I think that that says a lot more about those people than me.

“We just wanted the other night to be positive and to lift us up and celebrate my dad as he was as a musician, as a person, what he brought to people's lives and what people got out of him.

“We just wanted a positive night of no bullsh*t and that's exactly what we got. So thank you to every single person who has supported us and has been there and for sharing the other night with us.”

Kiera admitted they barely slept or ate for the last month to make sure everything was “100 per cent” on Friday night.

“I think it's safe to say that we didn't, not one of us slept or ate for the last month and we didn't see the light of day, if I'm honest. We worked so hard to make sure that everything was 100 per cent for everybody who was coming along to celebrate with us.”

Among the famous faces on stage celebrating Christy’s life included Imelda May and also Tony McGuinness, who left the band in 2008 and moved to Australia.

She said: “We had some of dad’s old crew with us the other night… it was great to have Tony back on stage after 17 years for a couple of songs with us. I think some of the fans were delighted to see him and he played a blinder as we knew he would.”
