Jamie Carragher labelled Antony "embarrassing" and told him to "get off the pitch" as he was seen whispering to his team-mates after Manchester United 's hammering.

Crystal Palace smashed four past the Red Devils, who were exposed defensively once again. The Red Devils also offered very little in attack with Antony having another underwhelming display as his nightmare career in the Premier League continues.

The Brazilian, who has struggled for goals and assists, was hauled off in the second-half but walked off alongside Mason Mount and Andre Onana after full-time. He was gesturing whilst also covering his mouth as he remonstrated with two of his colleagues - but Carragher was less than impressed.

He said on Sky Sports : "Just get off the pitch. Talking and whispering behind your hand, you have been absolutely awful. They are probably talking about one of the players, or somebody else or the setup or the manager. Just get off the pitch. Shut up and get in, you've been beaten 4-0. Whispering and talking about other players. Honestly, embarrassing."

Antony's price tag of £85million, which makes him one of the club's most expensive ever players, has long been held against him and Gary Neville commented earlier this season that his arrival will stick out as a major error.

He said: "That's the one that is going to stand out - that £85 million. He's obviously nowhere near that level. But there are a lot of deals you can start to look at with a glass half empty looking at the recruitment. What looks to have happened is Manchester United's recruitment department can't have gone and watched Antony and signed him off at £85 million."

Erik ten Hag's set-up struggled to halt United's difficult end to the season as they look like they could miss out on European football all together. They are dealing with a host of injury woes and have Arsenal next up at Old Trafford as they look to restore some pride.

Former skipper Ashley Young insists, if they continue to play like they did at Selhurst Park, they'll be without Europe next term. "If they put on displays like they showed tonight, they will miss out," he said. "When you look at the games they have got coming up, they are not easy games. If they are not willing to at least run about, then they are going to be in trouble and they will miss out on a European place."

Their loss at Palace means they have conceded 81 goals in all competitions this season, their most in a single campaign since 1976-77. As things stand, with three games remaining, the club could finish the campaign with a minus goal difference. The Red Devils have not finished a season on a minus goal difference since the 1989-90 Division One season - currently they are on minus three.
