Las Palmas star Alberto Moleiro could join Liverpool at a discount, with the Spanish club said to be prepared to sell the starlet for less than half the sum needed to meet his release clause.

Moleiro, 20, has played his part for La Liga's surprise package this season. Garcia Pimenta's newly promoted side sat in the top half of the table as late as March, only for a run of defeats to deny them a fairytale shot at European qualification.

Liverpool are gearing up for a pivotal summer in the transfer market as they welcome Michael Edwards back to Anfield. Edwards, along with incoming sporting director Richard Hughes, will be tasked with doing the business that helps the Reds kick on after the departure of long-serving manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseyside club aren't the only ones in the mix for Spain Under-21 international Moleiro, who helped Las Palmas earn promotion in 2023. Their months of groundwork still give them a chance to beat fellow suitors Inter Milan to the punch, though.

According to AS (via Sport Witness ), a bid of £21.5million might be enough to land Moleiro. That's less than half of his £51.5m release clause, with the player last extending his contract when Las Palmas were still in the second tier.

Moleiro can operate as a number 10 or a wide forward, and has two goals and three assists in La Liga this term. He has helped his club kick on despite losing fellow starlet Pedri to Barcelona in 2020, but sporting director Luis Helguera has been open about the club's stature and occasional need to sell.

"We have no problem selling players like Pedri or like Moleiro or any other for that matter, because we truly believe in what we do, in the work we do, and in how we develop our players and how we provide them with the tools so they can grow," Helguera said in March. "So for sure, very soon you will see young players at ages 17, 18 or 16, playing in the first team. This is a way we understand football and that's the way we do things here."

"I feel proud, really proud, when people compare me with him, but we're very different in the way we play," Moleiro said of the Pedri comparisons. "It is true that I like many players. I like Pedri, I like Fermin from FC Barcelona.

"I like any footballer who likes the ball, who likes to play with the ball. I always love that, and there are many out there who stand out because of that."

Moleiro could end up being Liverpool's first signing of the Arne Slot era, with a compensation package reportedly agreed for the Feyenoord boss to take over from Klopp after the end of the season. However, the incoming boss will also face the challenge of winning over the Reds' experienced current crop.

"It’s important that he gets the boys on his side," former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson said of Slot. "He needs to get their attention, get their belief as soon as possible."
