A man accused of making a serious threat to a woman at his home in Dublin has been granted conditional bail.

Adrian Adam, 24, with an address at Ossary Road, D.1, was arrested and brought to Mountjoy Garda station.

He was charged under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act with making a threat to kill or cause serious harm to a named female at his apartment on May 2.

Mr Adam was held overnight and brought to appear before Judge Conor Fottrell at Dublin District Court on Saturday.

Detective Garda Jeremy Gibbons said the accused “made no reply” when charged.

There was no objection to bail if Mr Adam signed on three days a week at a local garda station and notified gardai in the event of an address change.

The accused was granted legal aid following an application by defence solicitor Donal Quigley.

The defendant did not address the court and had yet to indicate a plea, but he signed the bail bond, accepting the conditions imposed by the judge.

Judge Fottrell adjourned the case until a date in July for gardai to obtain directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A decision has yet to be made as to whether the case will stay in the District Court or go to the Circuit Court, which, on conviction, has wider sentencing powers.

A summary conviction in the District Court can result in a fine and/or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months. However, when dealt with at a higher level, the offence can result in a sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment.
