"Routes for pilgrimage tourism lead to the chapels that protect the village", says Mayor Siyka Surkova. In her words, the dozens of small Christian temples built by the local families are an expression of the deep religiousness of the residents of Momchilovtsi.
A map with routes to the temples is placed in a central location in the village. The newest chapel is named after St. Basil, but it has not yet been consecrated as finishing touches are still being made. The Ayazmoto chapel will be among the most visited sites in the coming days and nights. It attracts pilgrims from all over the country for St. George's Day (May 6).
The hotels and guesthouses in the village are full of tourists for the holidays. The popularity of Momchilovtsi as a tourist destination is due to the preserved traditions, faith, history and family roots, said the mayor of Momchilovtsi.
