Models show promising weather

Weather models are showing a much more promising week with sun on the horizon after a very disappointing Bank Holiday weekend forecast.

Met Éireann has confidently predicted cloud and rain over the long weekend, with gloomy, unsettled conditions dominating over the next few days, after some teasing "limited sunny spells" on Friday.

The ever-reliable Carlow Weather took to his popular weather updates page to share some positive news after the washout weekend forecast, alerting followers to a much better week next week.

“On a rather crap morning it is good to see the weather models showing higher pressure next week,” he wrote. “Much better looking from Tuesday on current models. Good timing for mid-term if it holds”.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann has forecast outbreaks of rain throughout the weekend, although occasional sunny breaks will occur in parts. Here is a day-by-day breakdown of the weather over the bank holiday:

Friday

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Sunshine will be limited and is most likely in Ulster where it will be warmest. Highest temperatures of 10C to 18C with light to moderate west to northwest or variable winds.

Friday night will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, heavy at times. Lowest temperatures ranging between 5C in the south and 11C in the north, with light westerly or variable winds.

Saturday

Mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain, mainly over the northern half of the country. Driest with occasional sunshine in the south. Highest temperatures of 12C to 17C, mildest in the south, with light westerly winds.

Cloudy with patchy light rain in northern areas on Saturday night. It will be drier with some clear spells in the south, although rain may move into southern coastal areas overnight. Lowest temperatures of 4C to 11C with light and variable winds.

Sunday

Mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain, although occasional sunny breaks will develop too. Highest temperatures of 12C to 17C with light easterly winds.

Monday

A brighter day overall with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 14C to 18C with a light to moderate northerly breeze.
