Dublin Bus has announced it will be operating additional services this weekend to accommodate the anticipated increase in customer demand resulting from the closure of a number of Dart services in the city centre.

This weekend is expected to see an increase in people trying to access public transport amid a busy sporting weekend, with Leinster set to face Northampton in the Champions Cup Semi-Final at Croke Park on Saturday.

Many rugby fans from south Dublin and further south in Leinster would have planned to use the Dart to get to the Jones's Road venue.

However, there will be no train service between Grand Canal Dock in Dublin 2 and Bray, Co Wicklow over the May Bank holiday weekend due to planned line improvement works by Irish Rail.

In total, 13 stations will be closed over the weekend.

Irish Rail has said the closure of the Dart lines is necessary for the installation of a train protection system as well as the replacement of some overhead power lines.

Irish Rail said that deferring the works "would result in a cost significantly over €500,000 as both we and contractors have a range of commitments".

Dublin Bus announced on Thursday that they will be running additional services this weekend to accommodate the anticipated increase in customer demand due to the planned disruption to Dart services.

Dublin Bus will add more services on route 7, serving the city centre to Dún Laoghaire, and the 155 service going from the city centre to Bray from Saturday, May 4, to Monday, May 6:

Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead Ireland have also confirmed that they will accept valid rail tickets on services between effected stations.
