Tech giant Apple has said it’s working on a fix for an issue that’s causing some iPhone owners’ alarms to trigger silently.

The issue was first reported by NBC's Today Show, which said that a number of users were complaining that their alarms weren't waking them up in the morning.

“In the past six days of school, I’ve accumulated seven tardies,” said TikTok user CarterPCS. “I could’ve sworn it was because my alarm wasn’t going off.”

“I was literally late to work the other day because I slept through all four of my alarms that I had set,” TikTok user Charkaylotte recounted. “I was confused because I never sleep through my alarm.”

In a statement, Apple said it is "aware of an issue causing some iPhone alarms to not play the expected sound" and "is working on a fix."

The company's official statement didn't go into more detail on what caused the bug or why it seems to affect some users but not others.

Apple have also not confirmed if the bug is restricted to particular iPhone models or a specific version of its iOS software.

Some users have speculated that the Attention Aware features, which lowers the volume if a user is staring at the screen, could be to blame for the issue. The features are available on iPhone X or later, and iPad Pro 11-inch or iPad Pro 12.9-inch, Apple says.

By switching the features off, some users say they have managed to bring back their alarm sounds.

To turn off the Attention-Aware Features, go to iPhone settings, tap 'Face ID & Passcode' and scroll down to find 'Attention Aware features'.

You will be prompted to enter your passcode, after which you should be able to scroll down and see the option to toggle the features on or off.

But if that's not the problem, check the sound settings, under 'Sound & Haptics' to make sure your volume isn't set too low

.It can be easy to accidentally turn down your alarm’s volume if you have “Change with Buttons” toggled on beneath that, so you might consider turning that off.
