A body has been found in the search for missing Antrim woman Leah Sloan/McCrea, the PSNI has confirmed.

The tragic discovery was made by police and searchers on Monday evening in the Inver River in Larne, Co Antrim, Belfast Live reports.

A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said in a statement: "Police and searchers looking for missing person Leah Sloan/McCrea have located a body in the Inver River in Larne."

The statement continued: "Formal identification will take place in due course and Leah’s family has been informed. We would thank everyone who assisted with the search for Leah."

Leah was last seen on Thursday, 25 April, in Larne at around 1:30am. Police launched the search appeal on Sunday, 28 April.

A forensic team is examining the scene to determine the circumstances leading to her death.

Tributes to the tragic young woman have been led by her former secondary school which described her as a "darling girl".

In an emotional message posted to Facebook, Larne High School wrote: "The entire Larne High School community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of former pupil Leah Sloan/McCrea. We send our deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

"Leah, you never were, nor never will be, forgotten by your teachers here at school. Rest easy darling girl."
