Free ice rinks in Budapest
Budapest boasts several free skating rinks across the city. As part of the Advent Óbudán event, two rinks are available: one at Fő tér and another at the community area of the Békásmegyer market. These rinks will operate from 1 December 2024 to mid-January 2025.
Mornings are reserved for local schools and kindergartens, but afternoons and weekends are open to everyone. Skate rentals are available for a fee—HUF 1,500 (EUR 3.6) per pair per hour for students and HUF 2,000 (EUR 4.9) for adults—while rink access remains free.
Another exciting option is at Szent István Square, part of the Advent Basilica event. Here, children under 12 can enjoy a dedicated free skating rink, available daily from 5 PM. Free skate rentals are also provided at this venue, making it an ideal spot for family outings.
Free ice rinks around Lake Balaton
The Lake Balaton area also features excellent free skating options during the 2024/2025 winter season.
- In Zamárdi, the rink at the Balaton-parti Rendezvénytér opened on 30 November, welcoming visitors until 12 January. It operates every Friday to Sunday, and daily during the winter school break. Skate rentals are available for HUF 1,200 (EUR 3), but rink usage is free of charge.
- In Szigliget, a picturesque rink at the Várudvar provides a magical skating experience. While free access is limited to residents with a local ID, visitors can also enjoy skating by checking the local schedule and rental fees, which are available on the town’s official website.
