Fulfillment center Boxy is partnering with Infuze Robotics, a leader in industrial and consumer robotics, to launch a pilot program to explore the e-commerce applications of Unitree four-legged robotic platforms, commonly known as robot dogs, Világgazdaság reports.

As part of the project, the robot dogs will be tasked with navigating the complex warehouse environment and will be able to

  • manage inventory
  • perform safety checks
  • optimize quality control processes in real time.

Robots with advanced sensors and artificial intelligence (AI)

are equipped to move autonomously through warehouse areas, adapting to changing layouts and interacting with other technologies, including conveyors and automated picking robots.

“Artificial intelligence-based robotics and automation open up new dimensions in increasing the efficiency of warehouse operations and order fulfillment, and clearly set the direction for the development of e-commerce. Our development program aims to test the application of ground-breaking technologies to discover advanced solutions that enable more efficient operations and provide even better service to online stores and their customers,” underlined Boxy CEO András Táncsics.

He pointed out that

the pilot project will test Unitree B2 and Unitree Go2 robot dogs, also performing tasks such as real-time data collection, stock analysis, and threat detection.

Their sensors and cameras can be used to perform safety checks, monitoring environmental factors such as temperature and air quality, which can be identified and immediately alert human operators to any deviations that could threaten efficiency and safety. The four-legged robots can also assist with routine stock checks, signalling placement errors or stock shortages, but also optimize downtime to ensure orders are fulfilled on time.

János Körömi, managing director of Infuze Robotics, noted that

the superior mobility and intelligent sensor systems of their robots can take warehouse operations to a new level, facilitating automated tasks and improving plant efficiency.

The robot dogs deployed by Boxy are not the first self-propelled robots in Hungarian factories. In August, Audi reported that similar devices were being tested at the Győr (northwestern Hugary) plant for a year.
