More than 10,000 state employees will be rewarded in November for their contributions during the September floods, according to the Government Information Center.
24.hu reports that state employees who directly participated in or managed the flood relief efforts, including soldiers, water specialists, professional disaster managers, police officers, national defense personnel, law enforcement officials, government officials and volunteer firefighters, will receive bonuses.
These bonuses are expected to be paid out in monthly installments before the end of November.
In September, Central and Eastern Europe faced a major flood wave that affected Hungary. The Hungarian Defense Forces played a critical role in flood protection, deploying over 2,300 soldiers to assist in various capacities, such as building flood barriers and providing logistical support. The military’s involvement included operating heavy machinery and delivering essential supplies to affected areas, showcasing their capacity for rapid response.
Although the flood crest was 50 centimeters lower than in 2013, it lasted longer than usual, necessitating a coordinated response from both state employees and volunteers.
The government’s decision to reward those involved highlights the importance of their efforts in managing the crisis and providing support to affected communities during this challenging time. The collaboration between military, government and civilian responders emphasizes the resilience and unity of the nation in facing natural disasters.
