NATO has published a new video and photos, capturing the air defense exercise Ramstein Flag 24 in Greece. Over 130 Allied aircraft, including Hungarian Gripen fighter jets,  participated in the two-week military exercise that ended on Friday.

Ramstein Flag 24, organized by NATO’s Allied Air Command and the Hellenic Air Force, took place between September 30 and October 11, 2024. The exercise marked the first iteration of the ‘Flag’ series, aiming to demonstrate NATO’s determination and capacity to implement and execute the ‘Deter and Defend’ concept across NATO member countries in the Euro-Atlantic region.

As reported by Hungary Today last week, the exercise was held to enhance the capabilities of NATO allied forces, improve the decision-making process in an ever-changing combat environment, and further strengthen cooperation between members.

This was the first time that NATO’s air force has participated in such a sophisticated air exercise with partners from other regions.

Along with NATO AWACS aircraft and NATO RQ-4D Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance drones, over 130 fighter and enabler aircraft from twelve countries,

Canada, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States,

were participating in the exercise.

As Hungary Today reported, the last time the Hungarian Air Force had participated in a NATO exercise was at the end of May. At that time, an exercise called Lion Effort was held in the Czech Republic, in which about 500 service personnel participated, roughly 150 of whom were international participants. The training included the JAS-39 Gripen aircraft of the Hungarian Defense Forces, together with the host Czechs, and new NATO member Sweden.
